Hey,
I just wanted to share a song I've been working on.
Well, I don't actually know how to write music...or songs really.
But no one else seemed to be using that sort of medium.
And I'm getting tired of hearing Mother Culture every time I turn on my classic rock station.*
So I thought maybe somebody should write some songs that, you know, speak about how we see things.
And I guess I figured I should, you know, put my money where my mouth is.
So, here's song #1. Oh, and it's actually a music video...
See, I can't play the guitar. I played the drums for a few years...so I don't know how to read or write music. Umm. So I had a friend help with the music side. I wrote the words. Err. Lyrics. Anyways, it's a music video, because that's how songs form in my head. I think about something and then I get images, and then I write words about what I see.
Basically, the visuals is a small car (like a Corolla) being driven around an underground parking lot, and the driver keeps driving around and around and can't find a spot. The driver keeps changing from one person to another, slowly getting older and older and more and more frustrated. The band would be sitting in the back seat watching this all going on
Ok. Long exposition over. Oh, the chords are:
G B7 (repeat) Em C (repeat) G Am C D
I don't know what that means, but that's what I was told to write down. :)
"No Parking"
The parking lot is in our heads and the empty spot is a thought we share thinking faster can't help us escape of the answer we are unaware
[chorus] And we'll never find it our seeking pushes further away And we'll never see it cuz it don't exist anyway [/chorus]
The wheel ain't responding we watch the tires roll we're driving with no map and we broke the cruise control
CHORUS
[whistle & guitar solo: move up to a (f #m)]
Mindlessly retracing steps driving faster doesn't bring it near circle circle endless rounds not ever finding is the unspoken fear
CHORUS
****
Oh, be kind, thou gentle critics. 8)

Hey Tony,
Thanks! :) I'll post my other song when I'm done moving :) It's a tasteful comparison of Takers with zoo animals.

Hey Kate,
Aww, thanks! :) I don't know how to make my voice go to you. Hehe. It's a nice tune, umm...my buddy is reticent to record this at this early stage (he has the software and equipment to do it)...I'll post it when and if I get it recorded.

Dude!
Thanks! I'm glad the visual speaks to people :)
maybe write it out with where the chord changes are in the song
Yeti,
Dude! I'm a drummer! Drummers don't know that stuff :) I just wrote down what my buddy said, he's the guitar-chord-knowing-music guy.

sweet song joe, we need to get you a 4-track recorder. for more leaver themes check out pearl jam from 1998 and beyond and montreal's godspeed you black emperor. check out the album F#A#F#A# (to infinity). they're mostly instrumental but the occassional dialogue/lyrics is pretty post civilization.
you might like the song i'm working on right now (just so you don't feel alone), a block of lyrics go like this:
and it goes on and on and on and on... you must believe! and it goes on and on and on and on... you can be free! and it goes on and on and on and on... to live happy!
you've got to overcome these social memes, hypocricy and corporate dreams run away to foreign lands with grass stained knees and imagery of one last breath before the dive, the city soars the soul's alive. run away with me.

SWEET! This site just gets better and better! I've been working on songs to reflect some of the things I've been reading about. Here's one: A5 (on the fifth fret, for guitar-players), picking-pattern (low-A on the bottom string on one and three, E on the fourth string, seventh fret on the and of one and three, and A on the fourth string, seventh fret, on two and four -- keep the pattern up as the chords change). It's fairly simple, like walking in the rain.
"Gaviotas"
(A5) On the llanos The wind blows The rain falls A tree grows (E5) On the llanos (D5) On the llanos (A5) Gaviotas!
In the city All the lonely people sleep All the tired people dream (E5) Of a new way (D5) Of a new day (A5) Gaviotas!
(Vocal line follows the melodies from the other songs quoted) (A5) "They paved paradise and put up a parking lot" (A5) And now we've got to "put on the red light!" If we still want to "listen to the music" (strike all three strings at once during this line) (D5) "When we're (G5) sixty-four!" (C5) (A5, back to picking)
If you listen You can hear the people sing You can hear the children play (E5) If you listen (D5) If you listen (A5) Gaviotas! |

The Stalking Wolf Rap
I wrote this on a greyhound bus 7 years ago (a runaway at age 17) on my way to my first Tracker School class, where I performed it. haha.
Stalking Wolf is the name he goes by The whites killed his parents so he hid with his tribe A scout in 5 years and a shaman at twenty he wondered around for years a plenty Teachin here and there - smakin a bear Clearin his mind by givin deamons hairs He went down south and then up north to and fro and back and forth He saw no hope after 60 years so returned to his people with eyes fulla tears the oldest shaman told him to quest the spirits will know what to do best with a white coyote and a spirit pointing east if not at all, he had to see at least as he walked on and on and looked all around he saw a young boy without a doubt tom brown -- He taught little tom all that he knew so that tom could grow up and teach it all to you he broke the silence with his thunderous voice his most important lesson being that of choice he sang songs to the spirits and beat on a drum and he spoke of profecies for years to come how tom was going to write and teach and the millions of people that he would reach teaching tracking awareness and the skills of survival helping to start the worlds spiritual revival so thank stalking wolf this song is for him because of his hope the future doesn't look so grim and if you sing this song I know that he will hear it he may be gone in the flesh but he's with us in spirit |
